Celebrating Princes Hill and North Carlton Streetscapes

During Heritage Week in April 2012 the Network raised the profile of the organisation and enabled community members and visitors to gain more information and to appreciate the built heritage of North Carlton and Princes Hill.

  1. On Friday 13 April, around 40 people heard Peter Williams, Life Fellow, Australian Institute of Architects, talk about good design in heritage overlay areas.

  2. On Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 April an Information Booth at Curtain Square  provided visitors with heritage overlay maps,  information on heritage in the City of Yarra, and information on the Yarra Heritage database to enable them to look up their own houses.

  3. The Carlton Library provided information on heritage gradings from the  1984 Nigel Lewis Conservation Study which includes streetscape gradings.

  4. Walks on both days gave 149 participants the opportunity to learn much about the built heritage of their local area. Thanks are due to Trevor Huggard who led the Princes Hill walk and Jeff Atkinson who led the North Carlton walk.

Approximately 450 people participated in the celebration.

The Network is grateful to the City of Yarra for its community grant supporting the activities.
